Dr. Ben Bauman

Dr. Ben Bauman is a co-owner and veterinarian at Birchwood Veterinary Clinic and a long-time member of the Prince George community. Born and raised locally, Ben grew up exploring the forests of Northern BC, an upbringing that shaped both his love for animals and his down-to-earth perspective on care.

He earned a Bachelor of Science with distinction from the University of Victoria before completing his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon. After graduating, Ben gained experience working in Edmonton and Prince George, followed by several years providing locum veterinary services throughout Northern BC. Working in a wide range of clinics and communities helped shape his adaptable, thoughtful approach to veterinary medicine.

At Birchwood, Ben brings a strong understanding of the people and pets of Northern BC. He believes good veterinary care is built on trust, clear communication, and finding realistic paths forward that respect both medical standards and individual circumstances. As the clinic has grown, Ben has transitioned into a mentorship and leadership role, supporting both new and experienced doctors in developing a collaborative, client-focused approach to care. He is especially passionate about teaching veterinarians how to work alongside families, offering guidance without pressure and helping clients feel confident in the decisions they make for their pets.

Ben is known around the clinic for his calm presence, approachability, and steady leadership style. He values teamwork, mutual respect, and open dialogue, and plays a key role in shaping the culture at Birchwood as the practice continues to grow.

Outside of the clinic, Ben enjoys spending time outdoors with his family and their ever-growing collection of pets. As a co-owner of Birchwood alongside his wife, Mel, he remains deeply committed to providing compassionate, community-minded veterinary care in the place he is proud to call home.
