Mel is the Co-founder and Practice Manager of Birchwood Veterinary Clinic. Her path to veterinary medicine wasn’t traditional, but a lifelong love of animals and a drive to create positive change in her community naturally led her here.
She holds degrees in both Arts and Education, and much of her professional background centers around people, education, and leadership. Her introduction to veterinary medicine began by supporting her husband, Dr. Bauman, on his journey to becoming a veterinarian. From volunteering and raising a household of beloved pets to eventually opening a clinic together in their hometown, Mel has been a part of every step!
At Birchwood, her focus is the people behind the medicine. Mel is passionate about fostering a work environment that is kind, respectful, and motivating. Her goal is to support a team that feels happy, inspired, and confident in their ability to offer excellent care- because when the team is thriving, patients and clients benefit too.
Outside of work, Mel loves spending time with her family, skiing, biking, reading, and soaking up as much fresh air as possible. She’s also a former dancer- and rumor has it she’s still got some moves. (Ask her nicely and she might even teach you a routine while you wait for bloodwork!)
Mel has already begun welcoming local youth into the clinic to get a behind-the-scenes look at the many roles within veterinary medicine, and she hopes to grow these opportunities in the future. Inspiring the next generation of animal lovers and veterinary professionals is a goal close to her heart.
