Mckayla

Office Manager

McKayla has loved animals for as long as she can remember. As a kid, she was always training her grandma’s pets, building backyard agility courses, and being that girl at parties who mysteriously disappears, only to be found hanging out with the family dog in the other room. After high school, she jumped straight into animal care, working in kennels and daycares before launching her own dog training business.

While she explored college studies in language arts, science, and human psychology, the pull to work directly with animals was always stronger. That mix of formal education and hands-on experience has shaped her approach to client communication and animal behaviour. She also holds certifications in Kennel Management, Basic Obedience, and Master Trainer through Canada West Canine Centre.

Years spent managing busy kennels gave her valuable experience in team leadership, client service, and animal care. It’s this well-rounded background that makes her such a strong fit for her role at Birchwood, where she supports the team, helps clients feel at ease, and keeps the clinic running smoothly.

McKayla’s passion lies in behavioural training. She loves starting early with puppies to build trust and prevent issues, but also has a soft spot for the so-called “difficult” dogs. She believes most behaviour challenges can be worked through with consistency, patience, and the right mindset. Her biggest flex? Walking a reactive dog and sipping a coffee at the same time.

When she’s not at the clinic, you’ll find McKayla hiking, paddleboarding, camping, or enjoying movie nights—all with her dogs by her side. Her goal is always to help pets live their best lives.
